Your Pet's First Visit

A pet's first visit to the vet can seem a bit daunting, so we've put together a list of info and resources to help you prepare.

Our goal is to always provide the finest in veterinary care to pets who are brought to our facility by preventing and treating disease, offering information or advice and providing assistance whenever needed. If you have any ideas or suggestions that may help improve our service, please let us know.

For your safety and the safety of your pet(s) all dogs must be leashed and all cats must be in carriers while in the Jasper Animal Hospital location.

At your first appointment, we will gather information about your pet’s background, health, diet, and training. We can also address any questions or concerns you might have.

Your veterinarian will examine your pet from nose to tail, looking for things like heart murmurs, ear infections, and/or parasites. Your veterinarian can also provide pet-proofing tips, training assistance, and parasite protection recommendations.

Before Your First Appointment
  1. Complete the New Client Form prior to your first visit.
  2. Assemble and be sure to bring all the proper items with you:
    • Your pet's adoption or purchase records
    • Any existing medical history
    • A list of current medications and supplements
    • Current feeding schedule and the brand of food you use
    • A list of questions you have for your veterinarian
  3. Collect any necessary stool or urine samples, if requested.
  4. If you're bringing in your dog, be sure he or she is accustomed to being on a short leash. If you're bringing a cat, be sure to have an appropriate carrier.
  5. Feel free to bring your pet's favorite treats to keep them happy and distracted!

Appointment Policies

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your pet's appointment for check-in. If you have not filled out all relevant patient forms yet, plan to arrive 10 minutes ahead of your appointment.

While we do our best to make sure all of our patients are seen on time, there will be times of occasional unexpected delay due to an emergency or because we are providing care for a patient that needs a little more time. Please accept our apologies should this occur, and understand that the same dedication and courtesy will be provided to your pet should they ever need it.

DOCTOR’S HOURS: By appointment, there is a doctor on the premises for all of the listed hours. For your convenience and in order to maintain a prompt and efficient schedule, please schedule an appointment and arrive on time. Late arrivals may be asked to reschedule. We do surgeries Monday through Friday, with each doctor doing a specific day. Surgeries are scheduled for drop off in the morning and are done throughout the day. Although emergencies may interrupt our schedule, delays will be no longer than necessary.

EMERGENCIES: Although we leave slots open in our schedule daily for urgent care needs or emergencies, these often fill quickly and we cannot guarantee availability to see same-day critically ill patients or emergencies. In these instances, we will refer you to an appropriate facility that is more equipped to appropriately care for your pet. Please understand that we never want to turn anyone away; we truly want your pet to get the best care medically possible, which may occasionally be at another hospital that is better equipped to handle emergent situations.

HOSPITALIZED PETS: Inquiries concerning hospitalized patients’ conditions are welcomed at any time. Visiting hospitalized patients is permitted after arrangements have been made with the doctor or a staff member. Hospitalized pets are discharged during hospital hours only.

CHARGES: It is the policy of this hospital that balances are due in full at the time of service or upon discharge of your pet after hospitalization. Payment may be made by cash, personal check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or CareCredit. A fee of $5.00 is charged for any held check, and a $25.00 fee is charged for all returned checks. Clients with past due balances are required to pay their balance in full prior to receiving future service unless other arrangements have been made. Clients who disregard their balances with us for over 60 days will have their account turned over to our collection agency.
